DESCRIPTION:Drit­ter Vor­trag von Corinne Bon­net im Rah­men der Mon­day-Lec­tures\, die gemein­sam von Max-Weber-Kol­leg\, Sem­i­nar für Reli­gion­swis­senschaft sowie dem The­ol­o­gis­chen Forschungskol­leg t³ The­olo­gie — Tra­di­tion — Trans­for­ma­tion ver­anstal­tet wer­den. \nThe link between the gods and the Earth has been the sub­ject of out­dat­ed the­o­ries in the his­to­ri­og­ra­phy of reli­gions about an alleged Moth­er Erath or Great Mediter­ranean God­dess. Like­wise\, the bipar­ti­tion between “Olympian” gods and “chthon­ian” gods was the sub­ject of a pro­found revi­sion. How­ev­er\, the earth is a fun­da­men­tal space for human life\, and even for the sur­vival of the social com­mu­ni­ties. Its sur­face\, its thick­ness and every­thing that is found in the depths\, under the earth\, con­sti­tute spaces inhab­it­ed by a whole series of divine pow­ers\, with which it is strate­gic to inter­act. This sem­i­nar will there­fore pro­vide the oppor­tu­ni­ty to explore the “earth­ly” dimen­sion of the space of the gods\, between Ge and the gods who receive the remains of deceased men\, the innu­mer­able pow­ers which link or attach to the earth or to the nether­world in the defix­iones\, or Posei­don and the Semit­ic El qn ʾrṣ\, the gods who hold or shake the earth. The earth is also con­nect­ed with oaths and dif­fer­ent sym­bol­ic rit­u­als. And last but not least\, the earth is expe­ri­enced and nar­rat­ed as an ances­tral\, even autochtho­nous space\, where ances­tral gods live “for­ev­er” and con­vey the col­lec­tive mem­o­ry of a longue durée human and divine his­to­ry.

How­ev­er\, as the Urban Reli­gion project shows\, the city is a par­tic­u­lar­ly dense space in divine pres­ences\, in rit­u­als\, in mon­u­ments… How can we today the­ma­tize the rela­tion­ship between the gods and the city\, under­stood as a polit­i­cal enti­ty\, in the Greek world and beyond? In what spaces and in what socio-polit­i­cal\, insti­tu­tion­al or infor­mal con­texts do the gods inter­vene? We will focus here on their pres­ence at the gym­na­si­um\, at the pry­ta­neum\, at the assem­bly and at the tri­bunal\, at the ago­ra\, at the the­atre\, at the bor­ders\, at the cross­roads\, in the gar­risons\, in the palaces\, in the libraries… What does this omnipres­ence of the gods do to human inhab­i­tants in dai­ly life and in the very func­tion­ing of polit­i­cal life? Do these ques­tions\, con­sid­ered on the scale of a city or an empire\, call for dif­fer­ent answers? How is the col­lec­tive and indi­vid­ual dimen­sion of reli­gious prac­tices inscribed in space\, through con­crete com­mu­ni­ca­tion devices? Here too\, the reflec­tion will be based on spe­cif­ic case stud­ies\, main­ly in Greece and in the Near East.

DESCRIPTION:Vor­trag von Ger­di­en Jonker und Markus Schlaf­fke im Rah­men der Mon­day-Lec­tures\, die gemein­sam von Max-Weber-Kol­leg\, Sem­i­nar für Reli­gion­swis­senschaft sowie dem The­ol­o­gis­chen Forschungskol­leg t³ The­olo­gie — Tra­di­tion — Trans­for­ma­tion ver­anstal­tet wer­den. \nNicht weit von Berlin spielte sich während des Ersten Weltkriegs eine Kolo­nialgeschichte zwis­chen Pro­pa­gan­da und Bil­dung\, Kriegs­ge­fan­gen­schaft und Unab­hängigkeits­be­we­gung ab.\nAb 1914 nutzte Deutsch­land islamistis­che Pro­pa­gan­dalager\, um mus­lim­is­che Kriegs­ge­fan­gene für die deutsch-türkische Allianz zu gewin­nen. Im Wein­ber­glager erlebten 18.000 rus­sisch-mus­lim­is­che Gefan­gene diese Strate­gie\, entwick­el­ten jedoch eigene Bil­dungsstruk­turen abseits der ide­ol­o­gis­chen Ein­flussnahme. Jonker und Schlaf­fke rekon­stru­ieren diese Geschichte und zeigen das Span­nungs­feld zwis­chen Rassen­hy­giene\, antikolo­nialem Wider­stand und den Krisen der Mod­erne.\nPar­al­lel zum Buch ent­stand ein Doku­men­tarfilm von Markus Schlaf­fke\, aus dem Auss­chnitte gezeigt wer­den.

SUMMARY:Religious Studies As We Like It: Annemarie Schimmel's research between emancipatory choice and androcentric compulsion
DESCRIPTION:Vor­trag von Pauli­na Rinn im Rah­men der Mon­day-Lec­tures\, die gemein­sam von Max-Weber-Kol­leg\, Sem­i­nar für Reli­gion­swis­senschaft sowie dem The­ol­o­gis­chen Forschungskol­leg t³ The­olo­gie — Tra­di­tion — Trans­for­ma­tion ver­anstal­tet wer­den. \nAlthough Prof. Dr. Dr. Annemarie Schim­mel achieved wide­spread inter­na­tion­al renown\, has a large aca­d­e­m­ic oeu­vre to her name and\, thanks to her exper­tise in study of Islam and her lin­guis­tic tal­ent\, among oth­er things\, pro­vid­ed numer­ous new and coura­geous research impuls­es\, her aca­d­e­m­ic exper­tise is reduced in pub­lic dis­course in Ger­man-speak­ing coun­tries pri­mar­i­ly to the con­tro­ver­sy sur­round­ing the Peace Prize of the Ger­man Book Trade (1995).\nThis reflects the prob­lem of selec­tive mem­o­ry cul­ture\, which is char­ac­terised by struc­tur­al pow­er dynam­ics. Using the exam­ple of Annemarie Schim­mel\, Reli­gious Stud­ies as We Like It address­es the chal­lenges that female schol­ars in Ger­man-lan­guage reli­gious research were and are con­front­ed with and calls for a more sen­si­tive exam­i­na­tion of the his­to­ry of the dis­ci­pline.

Dinge wer­den bewegt\, berührt\, in die Hand genom­men\, auf­be­wahrt\, abgelegt\, aufgestellt\, geküsst\, aus­geteilt\, gere­icht\, gegessen und getrunk­en. Zugle­ich sind Dinge nicht nur Objek­te im Sinn von pas­siv­en Gebrauchs­ge­gen­stän­den\, an und mit denen religiöse Hand­lun­gen vol­l­zo­gen wer­den. Ihnen kommt vielmehr in der Per­for­manz religiös­er Prax­is auch eine aktive Rolle zu: Dinge fordern zum Han­deln her­aus\, evozieren kör­per­liche Bewe­gungsmuster\, ver­bale Reak­tio­nen und lösen Assozi­a­tio­nen und Erin­nerun­gen an Ver­gan­ge­nes aus. Dinge ‚agieren‘ im Kon­text religiös­er Prax­is gle­ich­sam wie Akteure. Sie wer­den posi­tion­iert und sind zugle­ich selb­st Sub­jekt religiös­er Posi­tion­ierung­sprax­is. Vor allem am Beispiel der christlichen Abendmahls­feier lassen sich die Aspek­te von Posi­tion­al­ität\, Mate­ri­al­ität und Per­for­ma­tiv­ität religiös­er Prax­is her­ausar­beit­en.
